Job Description
UNIX Systems Administrator
- Monitoring & Troubleshooting Splunk health.
- User access management in Splunk.
- Set up simple alerts for various data sources or threshold conditions.
- Monitor forwarder connectivity to the indexer or heavy forwarder.
- Install and update Splunk apps or add-ons.
- Run basic queries to extract and display data based on user requests.
- Investigate complex issues such as search performance problems, data ingestion delays, and issues with Splunk Configurations.
- UNIX Systems Administrator Resolve issues with data parsing, field extractions, and indexing.
- Troubleshoot and resolve performance issues with Splunk queries or dashboards.
- Configure and manage Splunk forwarders (Universal Forwarder and Heavy Forwarder).
- Configure Splunk’s internal indexing pipeline (inputs.conf, props.conf, transforms.conf).
- Search Optimization and Performance Tuning of Splunk Searches.
- Create complex regex-based extractions for specific log formats.
- Modify or create new SPL commands or custom visualizations within Splunk apps.
- Design and implement large-scale Splunk infrastructures, considering redundancy, failover, high availability, and scalability.
- Evaluate and recommend best practices for deployment strategies (e.g. Indexer clustering, high availability setup).
- Identify and address bottlenecks in both the indexing and search layers, including issues with disk I/O, CPU, and memory usage.
- UNIX Systems Administrator Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field.
